King's Day Amsterdam

April 30th 2013

Rieu Royale CD.

Queen's Day (30th April) is always a special day in the Netherlands and Amsterdam and this year there will even be more reasons to celebrate, as Prince Willem Alexander and Princess Máxima are officially inaugurated as the new King and Queen of the Netherlands. Earlier this year Queen Beatrix delivered an official address to the nation, announcing her upcoming abdication from the throne. This will take place on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at the Royal Palace on the Dam Square, followed by the inauguration of the new King and Queen at De Nieuwe Kerk (New Church), also on the Dam Square.

On this festive occasion André Rieu was invited to arrange a brand new waltz medley: "The Coronation Waltz". A Waltz for the King, by the King of the Waltz! The Coronation Waltz will be performed live by André and his Johann Strauss Orchestra on the Museum Square (opposite the world famous Rijksmuseum) during the King's Ball. The inauguration and festivities will be broadcast world wide via TV.

The Coronation Waltz is part of a special compilation album, put together by André himself: Rieu Royale. It also contains a fresh arrangement of the Wilhelmus, the Dutch national anthem, which is a first release on cd.

Tracklist of the CD:

01 Coronation Waltz

02 Wilhelmus (National Anthem)

03 The Canals of Amsterdam

04 Second Waltz

05 Radetzky March

06 Emperor Waltz

07 Auld Lang Syne

CD Rieu ROYALE became GOLD (10.000 sales) even before

it was for sale in the shops!!

The King's Waltz, is a classy medley of a variety of old classic Dutch patriotic songs, arranged by André Rieu and Frank Steijns. It should not be called "Coronation Waltz" since in the Netherlands the King/Queen is not crowned, but inaugurated. The difference in Dutch between "King" and "Coronation" is one letter: Koning (King) and Kroning (Coronation). In our opinion the correct title of the Waltz should be: King's Waltz.
